Successful GENCON 2022 seminars held in Asia – more to come in Europe, US
Published: 22 March 2023
Last week, BIMCO conducted three highly successful seminars on BIMCO’s recent GENCON 2022 voyage charter party for the dry bulk trade. The seminars , which took place Singapore, Seoul and Tokyo, were all very well attended with great engagement from a lively audience interested to know about BIMCO’s flagship contract in the dry bulk trade when it comes to voyage chartering. Almost 100 people attended the seminars in each of the three shipping centres.
GENCON 2022 is the latest update to the charter party contract text last updated in 1994.
As one of BIMCO’s most popular contracts, members and the wider shipping industry have been very keen to hear about it, with webinars and training courses proving extremely popular.
At these three seminars in Asia, there was also the opportunity to hear directly from three of the key experts on the drafting committee: John Weale, the Chairman of the GENCON subcommittee, Magne Andersen of the Nordisk Defence Club and Helena Biggs of Gard UK.
They presented a clause-by-clause analysis of the new 2022 edition, highlighting the most significant changes.
In Singapore the team was joined by Stephen Harper of BW Group and also a subcommittee member who outlined the basic parameters for the revision. In Seoul, Tae Il Kwon, founding Partner of Kwon & Co gave a helicopter view of the form seen from a Korean law perspective.
BIMCO greatly appreciates the help and support provided by Allen & Gledhill in Singapore, the Korea Shipowners' Association in Seoul and the Japan Shipping Exchange in Tokyo in making the seminars so successful.
The roadshows will now move to Europe and later this year to the US. Sign up to newsletters for members or non-members and watch our website or follow the BIMCO LinkedIn page to hear the dates and venues and receive more insights and information from BIMCO about the shipping industry.
